The Women in Pensions Network (WOPEN), a pioneering mentorship program dedicated to empowering women in the pension industry, officially launched its first event with an exclusive cocktail session. The event brought together distinguished female leaders for an evening of insightful discussions, networking, and empowerment.

The highlight of the evening was a keynote address by the Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Omobola Oloworaran, who emphasized the importance of mentorship, leadership, and gender inclusivity in shaping the future of the pension industry. She described WOPEN as a movement that challenges us to accelerate action—not just in words, but in real, tangible, transformational change.

As part of the agenda for the day, a dynamic panel discussion, which moderated by Adaobi Okoye, Head of Human Resource at PenOp, had industry trailblazers which included, Yetunde B. Oni, Managing Director Union Bank, Olayinka Ajayi, Executive Director Zenith Pension Custodian and Blessing Ogwu, MD/CEO UBA Pensions. They discussed topics ranging from Advancing Women in Leadership, Creating inclusive workplaces that support working Mothers and Accelerating Career growth through coaching, mentoring and sponsorship.

The Event marked the beginning of a series of mentorship-driven initiatives aimed at fostering professional development and creating a supportive network for women in the industry. Attendees left inspired, with a renewed commitment to driving industry progress and championing female leadership.
